OOAK Customized Robert Tonner EUPHEMIA doll

Euphemia is a Robert Tonner doll from the Cinderella line. She came to me with her original hair; her owner requested a full reroot with mohair in a shade similar to her original Saran hair. She also wanted her smile evened out as the doll's original look was a little off balance. Her owner also wanted Euphemia to have a Titanic-style Edwardian-era hairdo.

After removing Euphemia's head, I removed all her factory hair and rerooted her with two shades of the best premium mohair available. I dyed the mohair myself to be sure the color was exactly what I needed. This was the longest phase of the customization but once she was done, I was really amazed at how different she looked. I loved the way her new hair looked when it was down.

Once I'd given Euphemia a haircut I started in on her up-do, which I researched beforehand. I had decided on a Gibson Girl style since I've seen that look on many women around the 1890's. It took a few tries before I actually got her hair to do what I wanted -- mohair is fluffier than human hair so it wasn't quite as easy to pull into the bun. Most of the photos I took with the flash off but I turned it on for a couple of them, which resulted in super-shine. In normal lighting, though, her hair looks more like it does in the photos without flash.

I really love the way Euphemia turned out. I only wish I had an Edwardian-era dress that I could've posed her in for her photos.

Euphemia was finished November 2007.
