Nico is another doll of mine that was inspired by a movie, this time director Paddy Breathnach's Blow Dry (starring Alan Rickman and Josh Hartnett, amongst many talented others). The movie, one of my all-time favorites, is centered around a hair show that comes to a tiny burg in England. I've never really cared about the world of hairstyling - or competition styling - but this film's witty and amazing, one part comedy and one part drama, filled to the brim with excellent actors.
Nico is loosely inspired by Josh Hartnett's character, a second-generation haircutter. Nico, likewise, is a stylist (his own hair is a testament to his creative streak). He has a whole mess of styling products and accessories I plan to take pictures of later when I have the time. You can see some of them in the background in the pics below.
His face is hand-painted, brown eyes and rosy lips triple-sealed with non-yellowing gloss. I sanded and blushed his body for a more natural look and sealed him hairline to toes with a flat-finish doll spray for lasting, washable color. Nico's hair is super-soft and stylable premium English kid mohair, hand-dyed by me to get the exact colors I wanted to use: warm nut-brown and bright red for a splash of artistic color.
Nico wears the same size of clothes as Barbie -- the jeans he's shown in were made for Barbie (not Ken!) and are genuine Levi 501 blue jeans! The black turtleneck is a Who's That Girl? shirt made by Volks. His accessories are Bratz Boyz pieces. The white shirt is a custom-made tank top by Blythe Angel Plaza.
Every hairstylist needs supplies. The two bottles shown above are custom made by myself, inspired by Bed Head salon products.
