Johnny is a tribute to my favorite Johnny Depp movie: Dead Man. Directed by Jim Jarmusch (Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai), it's.. well. It's hard to describe without short-changing what a cool flick it is. Johnny plays a Northeasterner come out to the wild west for a job that ends up not being there for him when he gets there. Things only go downhill from there. I had a suggestion from someone that I do a Johnny Depp-style face-up on a Volks Neo GO head (03) and I thought about doing one from a more well-known role but this one just lodged in my thoughts and wouldn't leave. I've been joking that I may have to do a whole line of Johnny's... As for Dead Man Johnny, getting his outfit together was an adventure that required the help of other talented artisans. His accessories include a genuine leather vest that looks gorgeous under his hand-made faux fur coat. His gun is a custom ordered Colt .45, hand-cast from real metal and hand-painted to have an ivory pearl handle. Johnny's belt is made of real leather and the little buckles are real metal too! The 'bullets' on the back are hand-painted rubber and the gun fits nicely into the custom-made holster. I've really enjoyed working on Johnny and having him around is definitely making the front room look a whole lot nicer. I've gotten *tons* of compliments on him from folks who've seen him proudly displayed above my art desk. I really mean to sell him one of these days but... well. Can you blame me not wanting to let him go?
